The Hope of the Promise by Dr. Joseph Q. Jarvis is a beautiful book with wonderful insights to the land of Israel and how the areas are talked about in the scriptures. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I especially appreciated explanations of the history in Israel according to the doctrine taught by the LDS church. I also enjoyed the photography as it really helped bring the places alive for me. If you’ve ever wanted to travel to Israel, this book helps you feel like you are there on a tour. I am so glad it was available for me to read before I take my tour this coming year, as it has prepared me to not only look at my visit with more understanding as I go to many places personally, but perhaps have a realization of their significance than I would have had before. I highly recommend it for people that are interested in learning more about Israel, and the things the scriptures teaches us about it. Books of this type you have to read with the understanding that most of it is extrapolation and conjecture based on a person's understanding of the subject. With that in mind, Dr. Jarvis's vast expertise and personal faith gives him interesting insights into a subject that is timely for our day.The photos are incredible and give a lot of context for stories we have read our entire lives.
